[Video] Overcoming Costly Preconstruction Issues - Linear Planning

Effective planning, optimization, and control of construction activities are paramount for the successful, on-time, on-budget completion of all projects.  Alignment-based projects present specific challenges that restrict construction activities and traffic control.

Many companies use traditional site-based project planning tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or Powerproject to develop detailed construction plans for alignment-based projects. These were never designed to work with distance-based projects and attempts to integrate distances often result in large, ineffective schedules that are difficult to manage.

When working on alignment projects such as roads, bridges, rail, water diversion, transmission lines and tunneling projects, planners and estimators often struggle building schedules interactively with all project constraints.
